The Waddel Fellowship

The Presbyterian Student Center at the University of Georgia is glad to partner with the Lilly Endowment and the Forum for Theological Exploration for The Waddel Fellowship, a student vocational discernment project that has been developed in partnership with congregations in Northeast Georgia Presbytery, the Presbyterian campus ministry at the University of Alabama (Bama UKirk), and Columbia Theological Seminary. The Waddel Fellowship is administered by the Waddel Fellowship Committee of the Board of Directors of Presbyterian Campus Ministry.

The goals of the Waddel Fellowship are to encourage undergraduate students and recently graduated students in the Athens area to explore calls to Christian ministry, to consider the relationship between faith and vocation, and to prepare for various types of leadership in the church. These goals are achieved by placing undergraduate students in short-term, part-time, paid leadership positions in congregations in the Athens area, building support networks in which they are mentored and trained, assisting them in visiting seminaries, and holding an annual vocational weekend at Columbia Theological Seminary. In addition, a full-time Waddel Fellowship Intern supports the Waddel Fellows and administers the program. The Waddel Fellowship, named for The Rev. Dr. Moses Waddel (1770-1840), former President of the University of Georgia and Pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Athens, will commence with its fourth class in August 2018.
